Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has revealed that the percentage of mobile services penetration has reached 97.5 of every 100 Egyptians during the first quarter (Q1) of this year.
The figure was published in the quarterly bulletin of the communications and information technology (CIT) sector’s indicators, issued by the ministry, and reflects a growth of 3.9% compared to Q4 of 2020.
According to the bulletin, the number of mobile service subscribers increased during the first three months of 2021, reaching 99.8 million subscribers. This compared to 95.3 million subscribers in the last three months of 2020, featuring a growth of 4.68%.
According to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the number of landline subscribers rose to 10 million by the end of last March. This compared to 9.8 million subscribers in Q4 of 2020, reflecting a growth rate of 1.9%. The landline penetration rate was 7.45 subscriptions per 100 citizens.
Mobile Internet use rates increased by 6.8% during Q1 of this year compared to Q4 of last year, as the number of mobile Internet subscribers reached about 55.9 million subscribers at the end of last March. This compared to 52.4 million subscribers at the end of the last quarter in 2020.
The number of Internet subscribers using USB Modem devices decreased remarkably by 18.3%, reaching 3.3 million subscribers in March. This compared to 4 million subscribers at the end of last December.
The number of ADSL internet subscribers increased by 5.1% during Q1 of 2021, compared to the last quarter of 2020, reaching 9.26 million subscribers at the end of March, compared to 8.8 million subscribers in December.
