Spanish football giants Real Madrid have experienced a strong shock in the past few hours after leaked records of the club’s president Florentino Perez were published by the newspaper El Confidencial.
The newspaper published audio leaks of Perez from 2006, which included offensive words towards a number of the club’s legends, most notably goalkeeper Iker Casillas and Raul Gonzalez.
The audio leaks showed Perez talking about Casillas, saying, “He is not a goalkeeper for Real Madrid. What do you want me to tell you? He is not and has never been, and it was the great failure we witnessed. What happens is that you have someone who loves Casillas and who wants him. Talk to him. I don’t know. They defended him a lot. He is one of the biggest scams, followed by Raul. Both are scams.”
The recordings also show Perez saying, “Raul is bad. He thinks Real Madrid belongs to him and his agent. He is one of the reasons I left the club. He is the culprit. He destroys Madrid and the morale of the players.”
The El Confidencial newspaper also announced that it will publish further audio files from Perez’s private conversations, in which he criticised several Real Madrid legends over the past years.
Peres responded in an official statement, published by the official Real Madrid website, saying, “The leaks were illegally recorded and are a conspiracy because of the European Super League. The words that were published were individual phrases that were cut out of an expanded conversation context.”
