The United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) has recently announced the selection of Egypt’s Sherifa Sherif as one of 24 experts on its Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) for a four-year term.
Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that the selection of Sherif, who serves as Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), is an achievement and honourable representation for Egypt in UN institutions.
For her part, Sherif expressed her thanks and gratitude for this appreciation, pledging to continue working for the service of her country.
Sherif holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the American University in Cairo (AUC), in addition to a PhD from the University of Sussex in the UK.
She also works as a Professor of Public Administration at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University.
Between 2015 and 2018, Sherif held the position of Head of the Public Administration Research and Consultation Center at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University.
She has been working for more than 20 years in the areas of public administration, corporate social responsibility, sustainable development, social entrepreneurship, environmental management, and governance.
Sherif has published many research papers and articles in national and international journals on her fields of specialisation, with many of her publications winning a Best Paper Award.
Moreover, she has worked with many international organisations as a principal researcher and consultant on projects related to: gender equality; women’s empowerment; good governance; administrative reform; sustainable development; and environmental management.
In 2017, Sherif was appointed as a member of the Egyptian National Committee of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), as well as the Egyptian National Coordinator for the Public Governance Committee of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
The CEPA at the ECOSOC includes international figures and expertise in the field of public administration, representing some countries from around the world.
