Egypt reports 6.1% decrease in imports from US during 2020: CAPMAS

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) has revealed that Egypt reported a 6.1% decrease in imports from the US in 2020.

The latest figures for Egypt-US trade were issued in the agency’s Annual Bulletin of Economic Relationship between Egypt and the US 2020.

The report addressed the volume of foreign trade volume, both in terms of exports and imports, between the two countries in 2019 and 2020.

The value of Egyptian imports from the US reached $4693.5m in 2020, representing 6.7% of Egypt’s imports and a 6.1% decrease compared to the $4999.5m reported in 2019.

Imports of seeds, oil seeds, oleaginous fruit, and fodder represented the highest value, reaching 32.5% of the total imports from the US. These segments accounted for a total of $1523.9m in 2020, compared to $1144.3m in 2019, reflecting an increase of 33.2%.

In 2020, the value of Egyptian exports to the US decreased 26.4% on the previous year to $1622.7m, representing 5.9% of Egypt’s exports, compared to $2205.0m dollars in 2019.

Exports of ready-made clothes were Egypt’s foremost exports to the US, accounting for 50.1% of the total and reaching $812.3m in 2020, compared to $949.0m in 2019, reflecting a decrease of 14.0%.
