The Ministry of Education and Technical Education has affirmed that the English language exam for the literary stream of Thanaweyya Amma (high school leaving) was leaked on social media only 30 minutes after the start of the exam.
The student involved in leaking the exam was arrested and the necessary legal measures were taken against him.
The ministry asserted strict penalties against students who cheat in accordance with the Anti-cheating Law No. 205 of 2020 on combating electronic fraud, by which the student will be forbidden from taking the exam for two years.
About 255,353 students in the literary stream took the English language exam, the last exam for this division.
Thanaweyya Amma exams started on 10 July, about 649,000 students are taking this year’s exams, amid strict precautionary measures against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Ministry of Education confirmed that correction of exams would be electronic and the results will be announced 10 days after the end of exams on 2 August,
This year’s exam aims at measuring the students’ understanding of the subject rather than the ability to memorise information.
