Helwan University has launched a project management and sustainable construction programme at the Faculty of Engineering in academic year 2021-2022.
The programme aims to improve skills of engineering graduates in the field of project management and sustainable construction.
Acting President of Helwan University, Maged Negm, said this programme sought to meet the needs of the labour market at the local, regional, and international levels.
Dean of Engineering Faculty, Mohamed Rabie, pointed out that this programme was the first of its kind in Egyptian universities.
Rabie added that the programme would accept freshmen from any Egyptian engineering college. The programme would last for four years.
Project management and sustainable construction is a broad scientific field concerned with the management of design and implementation of construction projects, and includes familiarity with the principles of engineering design, an understanding of legal and professional practices relevant to the construction industry.
It also requires an understanding of construction processes and methods of implementation, resource management, systems and equipment, planning and scheduling, occupational safety and monitoring costs, and communications between project parties.
The programme aims to prepare students for professional work in the field of engineering and management of sustainable construction projects by providing them with the necessary technical skills, personal and cognitive skills in the field of construction engineering, in order to supply the labour market with engineers capable of managing the design and construction operations of all construction projects such as administrative and residential buildings, industrial facilities, airports, roads, bridges, utilities, water resources projects and coastal engineering projects.
Graduates of the programme can also work in geotechnical engineering, transportation systems, and environmental engineering works.
