Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry received, on Tuesday, David Francis, Sierra Leonean Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, within the framework of his visit to Cairo.
An official session was held on a number of bilateral and regional issues of common interest, in addition to signing a number of bilateral agreements to enhance cooperation between the two countries.
Ahmed Hafez, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the two ministers praised the relations between the two countries, and highlighted the desire to enhance the level of trade exchange that would amount to the level of political relations between the two countries.
For his part, Minister Shoukry indicated that Egypt provided a package of aid, medical supplies and medicines, in order to support the health sector in sisterly Sierra Leone.
The two ministers also signed a bilateral agreement on cooperation in the field of political consultation, in addition to two memoranda of understanding to enhance cooperation in the fields of culture and youth, with the aim of facilitating communication between officials of the two countries while promoting cultural dialogue between the two brotherly peoples.
Minister Shoukry stressed during the meeting the importance of intensifying bilateral and regional efforts to combat terrorist organizations and organized crime groups in the Sahel region, including efforts related to reconstruction and development in the post-armed conflict stage.
The talks also dealt with joint coordination on the issue of reform and expansion of the Security Council, in light of Sierra Leone’s presidency of the Committee of Ten concerned within the framework of the African Union (AU).
For his part, the Sierra Leonean Foreign Minister expressed his appreciation for the cooperation between the two countries, and for the Egyptian side’s support for his country, which reflects the special relations between the two brotherly countries.
He also expressed the desire to strengthen relations in various aspects of cooperation, stressing the importance of continuing to work to increase cooperation in various fields and at various levels, in order to achieve the interests of the two brotherly peoples.
