Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar announced, on Sunday, that the minimum percent grade required for admission at medical colleges decreased to 90.73%, in an unprecedented decline over the past decades, while the engineering colleges’ decreased to 80%.
In addition, the minimum percent grade for dental faculty admission reached 90.24%, while the faculties of physical therapy recorded 88.78%. The minimum percent grade for enrolment in pharmacy colleges decreased to 88.53%.
The Minister revealed that economic and political science colleges accepted students with a minimum percent grade of 83.9%, while Al-Alsun accepted a minimum of 80.7%.
The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research will start the second stage of university admission on 31 August for the scientific stream with a minimum percent grade of 62.07%, and 58.05% for the literary stream.
Earlier this month, Minister of Education and Technical Education Tarek Shawki said that the graduation rate among Egypt’s Thanaweya Amma (high school) students in the academic year 2020-2021 was 74%. About 650,000 students took the Thanaweya Amma exams this year.
