Spanish club Barcelona will receive about €54m from their former Brazilian player Neymar da Silva over the current season 2021/22, after they reached an agreement to end a number of long-standing disputes in an “amicable fashion”.

The Brazilian forward demanded Barcelona pay him a renewal bonus he was allegedly yet to receive, while the Catalan giants hit back by suing the 29-year-old for breach of contract. Barcelona filed a lawsuit against Neymar to recover the money he obtained as an advance payment after renewing his contract with Barca before leaving to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017.

Legal proceedings dragged on for many years with no sign of complete resolution, but Barcelona released a statement in July confirming an out-of-court agreement was reached to end hostilities between the two parties.

Neymar leaving Barcelona and joining PSG is still considered one of the most sensational transfers in football history. The Neymar transfer saw the Brazilian make the world-record switch to Paris for £198m.

The expected €54m amount will contribute to solving the economic crisis that Barcelona is experiencing due to the coronavirus pandemic.

On the other hand, Dutch Ronald Koeman, Barcelona coach, received two painful blows after beating Getafe 2-1 in the third round of the La Liga on Sunday.

Barcelona’s right-back Serge Roberto was injured in the match, and he immediately asked to be replaced in the 76th minute. Danish Martin Braithwaite was also injured in the 78th minute and asked for a change as he could not complete the match.

The newspaper revealed that the duo suffered muscle injuries, and they will undergo a medical examination to determine the extent of their injury and the length of their absence.

The injury prevented Barcelona striker Braithwaite from joining the Denmark national team for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in Qatar.
