In a prestigious Event, overlooking the pyramids, Cairo Designathon will be celebrating the winners of Cairo Design Marathon II, with Egypt’s Top Designers and Industry figures.
The Exclusive Award Event will take place on 6 of October, in the Famous Mena House Hotel, overlooking the pyramids, and will be attended by Egypt’s top brass of the design industry in a one-of-a-kind event, sponsored by GLC Paints, and Mahgoub Ceramics.
The Design Marathon itself was ran last April, and concluded on Saturday May 1st, announcing the 4 winning teams and 4 runner-ups for the 2d edition of the only collaborative design marathon in Egypt and MENA region.
Under the theme “Design Future Past”, Cairo Designathon Round II launched the call for participation, in the beginning of March, and 150 participants were accepted to compete in 17 teams across 4 design challenges. CDRII attempted to imagine what design, craft and industry will look like with the increased proliferation of future digital technologies.
The design marathon took place online from the 17th to 21st of April, and ended in 3 International Jury sessions on Thursday, 22nd of April, with esteemed Jurors from multiple countries all over the globe.
The 4 design challenges for round II were: Furniture design challenge, Light Fixtures design challenge, Woodwork crafts design challenge, and Social design challenge. Each design challenge was guided by a stakeholder from the industry and area of impact, and these were: Pinocchio Furniture, 3 Brother Lighting, Nadim Group, and Megawra Built Environment Collective, respectively.
For 5 days, 17 teams of Egyptian and international designers, from various design disciplines and ages, worked collaboratively in their assigned design challenges, in a series of online design workshops across multiple collaborative platforms.
The design teams were aided by 14 Design Facilitators, Veteran and Premium Designers from Egypt and Italy, who helped manage the logistics of the design workshops.
The marathon also featured 16 design talks by renowned Egyptian and International designers, and 3 International Design films screenings in partnership with “Film My Design” film festival.
