Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) has revealed that the country saw a 12.9% decrease in its manufacturing and extractives index in July 2021.
CAPMAS issued, on Monday, a press release of primary data of manufacturing and extractive industries.
The agency has updated the index methodology using 2012/13 as a base year and the level of main indices of industrial activity according to Industrial Activity Manual (ISIC Rev.4) and the monthly index for producer prices based on 2012/2013.
Manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, reached 103.09 during July 2021 (primary), compared to 117.39 during June 2021 (final).
Economic activities that witnessed an increase are as follows:
Beverages reached 379.92 during July, up from 368.63 in June, an increase of 3.06% due to increased demand for drinks in summer.
Clothing reached 100.57 during July, up from 98.80 in June, an increase of 1.79%, to meet the market needs during Eid al-Adha celebrations.
Other economic activities experienced a decrease:
Chemical products reached 95.66 during July, down from 111.22 in June, a decrease of 13.99%, as a result of stagnation in contracting activity.
Basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations reached 104.26 in July 2021, down from 124.67 in June, a decrease of 16.37% due to Eid al-Adha holiday.
