Noke Masaki, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt, awarded the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation to Ibrahim El Tantawy El Sayed, President of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Alumni Association in Egypt (JSPSAAE), on the occasion of the extraordinary general assembly meeting of JSPSAAE.
Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields, in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas.
JSPS provides postdoctoral fellowship programs for young overseas researchers and around 300 Egyptian fellows have been sent to Japan with this fellowship since 2004.
Tantawy has played a significant role in the promotion of mutual understanding as well as academic cooperation between Japan and Egypt through long-term agreements and joint research projects, in addition to participating and giving lectures in JSPS Science dialogue programme. This contributed greatly to the advancement of JSPS’s mission.
He has focused on encouraging and supporting young researchers through establishing “Science Dialogue’ and “Science Cafe” for high school students, and creating the award for young Egyptian researchers in collaboration with the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT). Furthermore, he has played a crucial role in supporting activities of JSPS Cairo Research Station, promoting co-sponsored symposiums with universities and research institutions.
Ambassador Noke extended sincere appreciation to El Tantawy for his great contribution to promote academic relationship between Japan and Egypt. El Tantawy, in response, expressed his gratitude for the Commendation, emphasizing his eagerness to continue working to further expand cooperation between the two countries in the academic field.
