Ambassador Suha Gendy, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director of the African Organizations and Gatherings Department, has headed Egypt’s delegation participating in the 17th meeting of the COMESA Peace and Security Committee.
This comes as part of the preparatory meetings for Egypt’s hosting of the 21st COMESA Summit.
The meeting discussed issues related to peace and security developments for the assembly’s member states, as well as progress reports on a number of issues related to the early warning mechanism, mediation efforts, maritime security, and post-conflict reconstruction.
The ambassador affirmed Egypt’s keenness to support security and stability in all the countries of the assembly, and the importance of solidarity among its countries to confront all the security challenges it faces, foremost among which are armed conflicts, terrorism and climate change.
She stressed that Egypt will spare no effort during its upcoming presidency of the assembly to achieve its goals and meet the aspirations of its peoples for peace, development and prosperity.
The participants congratulated Egypt on hosting the upcoming Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Climate Change Convention in 2022 (COP27), stressing their countries’ confidence that Egypt will seize this occasion to defend African interests, as it is the continent most affected by climate change.
