Wildfires on Sunday continued to break out in different regions of Lebanon, approaching residential areas in some villages, Elnashra news website reported.
The fires, started on Saturday, have spread in different villages in Mount Lebanon including Bekaata, Achkout and Beit Mery while destroying vast agricultural areas in Lebanon’s southern villages of Kfar Roummane, Jarmaq, Choukin, Zebdin, Kfarseer and other areas.
In response to the fires, Lebanon’s civil defense teams took swift actions and the authorities have asked the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for support.
Meanwhile, Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri on Sunday called for the appointment of a sufficient number of forest guards to strengthen control and protection of the national forests.
