JICA Chief Representative in Egypt, OMURA Yoshifumi, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with President of Ain Shams University, Mahmoud El-Meteini, to open the Japanese culture centre Kominikan in Cairo and strengthen social education in Egypt.
The agreement was also signed by President of the NPO “10,000 People Meeting”, Minami Shinnosuke, and Dean of Faculty of Education at Ain Shams University, Hazem Rashed.
The signing ceremony was held at the premises of Ain Shams University and included virtual participation from Japan. It was witnessed by the Vice President of Ain Shams University, Ayman Saleh, a representative of the Embassy of Japan in Egypt, Professors of Ain Shams University, and representatives from NPO and JICA Egypt Office.
The MoU aims at spreading and sustaining the management of the Kominkan model in Egypt through holding activities in various fields to enrich the Egyptian skills and provide guidance on its operations to serve the needs of the local communities in Egypt.
It is worth mentioning that the Kominkan concept started in Japan right after World War II as a way of development through social learning and sharing experience and skills among citizens. There are more than 14,000 Kominkan around Japan, which is not only the most familiar learning center for local residents, but also plays an important role as a place of communication and exchange through social activities.
