Egypt has made progress on the Global Knowledge Index, advancing 19 positions from last year, to the 53rd globally and the first in Africa in pre-university education, according to a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Education and Technical Education.
The index measures global knowledge as a comprehensive concept closely related to sustainable development and the various dimensions of contemporary human life.
Meanwhile Minister of Education, Tarek Shawky, participated in a panel discussion organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) entitled A New Vision for Education Digital Learning for Every Child by 2030.
The panel aims to highlight the extent of marginalization of girls, children living in rural areas, children on the move in the digital learning solutions.
The panel aims also to integrate digital learning into education to include less fortunate students into digital learning systems.
The index was launched under the umbrella of the joint initiative, known as the “Knowledge Project,” between the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation and the UN Development Program. It has been issued annually since 2017.
By tracking the knowledge performance of countries, the index draws a road map to advance the process of knowledge and development by setting forward-looking strategies aimed at bridging knowledge gaps and promoting the development of inclusive knowledge societies.
