Egypt is keen to localize auto industry, especially manufacturing electric car: asserts PM

Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly asserted the importance of localize auto industry and its feeding industries in Egypt, stressing that the state is fully prepared to provide all possible means of support to build serious partnerships in this field. 

  Madbouly’s remarks came during his meeting with CEO of Mansour Automotive Group, Ankush Arora, President of General Motors Egypt, Tarek Atta, and Head of Business Development Department at Mansour Automotive Group Mohamed El Ghazaly. 

During the meeting Madbouly called on representatives of the two companies to prepare a comprehensive study on their plan to manufacture the proposed electric car in Egypt, in order to support the state’s plan to implement the green mobility policy.

For his part, Arora reviewed a proposal for the launch of the electric car industry in Egypt, highlighting the indicators of the sales volume of electric vehicles in the global market, as 2.65m electric cars were produced in 2021. 

He added that the electric vehicle market in Europe has witnessed remarkable growth as a result of imposing laws to reduce harmful emissions, and the expansion of green transportation alternatives.

The CEO of Mansour Automotive Group indicated that the electric vehicle industry is expected to grow about 27% by 2030.

After the meeting, Madbouly inspected a model of a small electric passenger car produced by General Motors which they intend to launch in the Egyptian market next year. 

The PM hailed the new electric car model, expressing the possibility of introducing it in Egypt through various programs and initiatives, including incentives for Egyptian consumers.
