The Scientific Committee to Combat the Coronavirus that is affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population revealed that there is a noticeable increase in the rate of Omicron infections in Egypt, which has led to the beginning of a fifth wave of the virus.
A source in the committee quoted by local media assured that the country’s health system has the ability to confront the fifth wave of the virus and the increase in the number of infections in the same way it was able to deal with the previous waves, and that some important rules must be adhered to in order to avoid major hikes in infection rates.
The source added that there are measures that must be adhered to in the current period in order to avoid the worst side of the spread of the virus and everyone must adhere to it.
They specified that these measures are “home isolation for anyone who catches colds, obtaining the vaccine and the booster shot, as well as avoiding closed spaces.”
Furthermore, they explained that the reason the virus has spread significantly during this period is the drop in temperatures since the beginning of the winter season, which coincided with the spread of the Omicron variant.
