The National Reading Programme (NRP) will organise a marathon on 27 January on the sidelines of the 53rd Cairo International Book Fair in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The marathon aims to encourage youths to attend the Cairo Book Fair and urge them to read to spread and develop awareness and knowledge.
The marathon also aims to maximise a sense of belonging by supporting national and human values, which contributes to promoting Egypt’s cultural leadership globally.
About 2,000 Egyptian youths will participate in the marathon. The event will be held in Cairo, Alexandria, Ismailia, and Luxor and will run for about two hours, covering a distance of about four kilometres.
The NRP is also holding two seminars on the sidelines of the book fair, where the first aims to raise awareness of the importance of reading and its role in developing creative and writing skills. The second seminar aims to present some success stories related to reading and the use of the Arabic language.
The NRP comes within Egypt’s Agenda of 2030 Vision, in cooperation with the United Arab of Emirates. The NRP is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Al Azhar, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Culture, the Egyptian Knowledge Bank. The programme will run for 10 years, with EGP 500m investment, divided into EGP 50m each year.
