Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry participated on Sunday in an Arab ministerial consultative meeting to discuss the current challenges facing Arab countries and the need to intensify coordination and consultation, support mechanisms for joint action, and strengthen the pillars of Arab national security.
The meeting, which was hosted by Kuwait, dealt with ways to develop and strengthen bilateral relations between the member states of the Arab League.
It reviewed the various areas of cooperation and the frameworks for their development with broad dimensions and perspectives in order to achieve common interests and benefits to preserve Arab national security and to support the process of joint Arab action.
During the meeting — which is held in accordance with a resolution issued by the Council of the Arab League — consultations and discussions were held among the Arab foreign ministers on everything that would enhance and open new horizons for the development of Arab cooperation mechanisms within the framework of the Arab League.
The Arab ministers discussed crucial Arab issues, foremost among them the first and central Arab issue, the Palestinian issue.
The ministers also discussed other issues the Arab world is facing, in addition to ways to strengthen Arab cooperation towards facing the challenges that Arab countries are facing, especially those related to confronting the coronavirus pandemic and its repercussions on Arab countries and the world.
They also discussed aspects of Arab cooperation in dealing with these crises and how to maximise the Arab role in this context, in a spirit of high transparency and openness within the framework of the Arab House.
Earlier on Sunday, Shoukry met with his Lebanese counterpart Abdallah Bou Habib in Kuwait to discuss the latest developments in Lebanon and means of completing efforts to support Lebanon and its brotherly people
The minister also met with his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheik Ahmed Nasser Al-Sabah and discussed the brotherly relations between the two countries and issues of common concern.
