The meeting aimed to discuss ways to increase cooperation in the Egyptian family development process, “within the framework of the Egyptian state’s keenness to take care of the public health of citizens,” according to a statement from the Health Ministry on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the minister stressed the importance of upgrading and improving the demographic characteristics of the Egyptian families, and limiting population growth, within the framework of the state’s plan “Egypt’s Vision 2030”.

Moreover, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, said that the minister discussed with Mayer the progress of the project “Integration of Reproductive Health and Family Planning Services” in cooperation with the UN Population Fund.

The project aims to provide health services and effective and safe means of family planning, through medical convoys and family planning units in the governorates, especially in villages and remote areas.

Abdel Ghaffar added that the meeting also addressed the progress of the project “Addressing Gaps in Reproductive Health and Rights in Egypt”, which was implemented within an agreement between Egypt and Canada in 2020 and is scheduled to continue until 2025. It aims to raise societal awareness among women and men of the importance of family planning, and provide all facilities for beneficiaries to obtain health services and family planning methods.

Furthermore, both Abdel Ghaffar and Mayer discussed ways to develop training programs for family doctors in Egypt, to provide the best health services to citizens.
