Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aty chaired on Sunday the first meeting of the Scientific Committee for the fifth edition of Cairo Water Week to discuss the necessary arrangements for the event, which is scheduled to be held next October.

The meeting reviewed the tasks of the committee and the most important topics and scientific competitions to be held during the week.

The committee is also working on setting standards and rules for accepting research papers as well as rules for publishing distinguished research that will be accepted for publication in the Scientific Journal of the National Centre for Water Research.

Abdel Aty stated that the upcoming edition of the conference will be held under the title ‘Water at the Heart of Climate Action.’ He explained that the event aims to raise awareness of water issues, promote innovations to confront urgent water challenges by unconventional methods using modern technology, support and implement integrated water management policies, and reach sustainable solutions to manage water resources to confront population growth and climate changes.

It is expected that the week will witness a wide participation of ministers, official delegations, and senior officials in the water sector and other related sectors from different countries, in addition to scientists, parliamentarians, international organisations and institutes, and civil society organisations.

The week’s activities include holding many high-level meetings, regional workshops and technical sessions, and presenting scientific research from experts, professors, students, university graduates, and school students, which adds scientific impetus to the week and helps exchange ideas and experiences and contributes to identifying areas of partnership and cooperation.

On the side-lines of the week, an exhibition will be held on modern irrigation technology, smart irrigation, water recycling methods, and water treatment techniques.
