Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry discussed with UN Special Envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen the latest developments in the Syrian crisis in a phone call on Monday.

Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Hafez said that Pedersen briefed the minister on the ongoing efforts and measures being taken to move towards a political settlement of the Syrian crisis and expressed his appreciation for the Egyptian role in supporting these efforts.

For his part, Shoukry stressed Egypt’s keenness to push forward the political process in Syria and end the political stalemate in the country.

The minister also emphasised the need to give priority to the national interest of Syria among the various parties concerned with the crisis, which has lasted for more than a decade and has had grave humanitarian repercussions on the brotherly Syrian people.
