Cairo giants Al Ahly SC have been gearing up for their crucial match against Sudanese Al-Merrikh on Saturday, the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
Al Ahly have one point from two previous games in the group stage, which put the team under pressure.
The coaching staff of the team, led by South African Pitso Mosimane, developed a special programme to prepare the players for the game. They analysed videos of Al-Merrikh’s last matches to spot the strengths and weaknesses of the Sudanese team and set an appropriate play plan.
Al Ahly drew 0-0 with Al-Hilal in Sudan, and lost 0-1 to South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in Cairo. Therefore, Al Ahly need to win the remaining four matches of the group stage to qualify to the quarter-finals.
On Tuesday, Mosimane labelled the team’s huge victory over Pharco FC in the Egyptian Premier League as an apology to the fans for the Sundowns defeat. He said the Red Devils were in dire need of a win against Pharco to regain their confidence.
