Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Anany and Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat held an expanded meeting to find out the latest developments regarding enhancing the efficiency of internet speeds in hotel establishments of all kinds across Egypt, especially in Sharm El-Sheikh.

It comes after El-Anany issued a decision obligating all hotel establishments to raise their minimum internet speed, in preparation for the 27th Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP27) that will be held this November.

This is applicable on all five, four, or three-star hotels, as well as floating hotels in Sharm El-Sheikh to be completed in the coming three months, with the remaining facilities across Egypt given leeway till the end of 2022.

According to what was reviewed in the meeting, so far, fiber-optic cables have been laid to connect the external network to each facility’s telecommunications room in 50% of the total number of hotels in Sharm El-Sheikh in one month so that these facilities can begin contracting for high-speed internet services.

Furthermore, the specific timings for training courses being prepared by both ministries to measure the performance and quality of internet networks in hotels were stressed. The course will be provided by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the Information Technology Institute.
