Hossam Abdel Ghaffar — the Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population and the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of University Hospitals — said that the number of beneficiaries in the first phase of the university hospital automation project is 10 million.

This phase includes 80 university hospitals nationwide.

He made his statement on Monday during a ceremony in which Vodafone Egypt signed a cooperation agreement with Delta Electronic Systems to implement the first phase of the university hospital automation project across the country.

Abdel Ghaffar said that the first phase of the project includes five hospitals affiliated with Al-Azhar University and was commissioned by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to Khaled Abdel Ghaffar — the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Health and Population.

He added that the project aims to develop a complete electronic system for the patient’s journey to receive treatment and create a unified electronic file for transfer between service providers in the governorates

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat pointed out that his ministry is working with the higher education ministry to implement multiple projects in order to build an integrated digital society, including Egypt’s digital innovation centres within universities as well as the opening of the Egypt University of Informatics (EUI) in the New Administrative Capital.

Talaat explained that the university hospital automation project is a dedication to the fruitful cooperation between the two ministries, especially as it aims to automate the health care system and create a unified medical file for Egyptian citizens through which they can receive treatment from any hospital affiliated with the higher education ministry.

He stated that the project includes automating the distribution of patients in hospitals, linking different departments and purchases, in addition to issuing a set of reports and statistics to help researchers with patients’ data and demographic patterns, as well as identifying types of diseases.

Talaat also stated that the first phase of the project covers 80 hospitals affiliated with about 12 universities

Abdel Ghaffar said that cooperation with the communications ministry has been ongoing for more than three years in the areas of digital transformation.

He added that the government seeks to digitise all services in light of this era.

Mohamed Abdallah — the Managing Director and CEO of Vodafone Egypt — pointed out that the project comes within the framework of Egypt’s 2030 Vision, stressing that his company is keen to establish strategic partnerships with government agencies to support the country’s strategy in digital transformation.

He added that Vodafone is always keen to develop advanced solutions in all economic sectors, especially education and health, stressing that the company will train hospital workers to use electronic systems, manage warehouses and assets, and develop advanced applications in cooperation with VACSERA and Health Inside.
