Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi discussed on Tuesday the latest developments in the Libyan scene with Head of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohammed Al-Menfi.
In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady said that President Al-Sisi welcomed Al-Menfi’s visit to Cairo, stressing Egypt’s support for everything that would achieve the supreme interest of Libya, preserve its territorial integrity, and activate the free will of the Libyan people.
This comes within the framework of Egypt’s firm principle of supporting Libyan state institutions in carrying out their responsibilities and role, holding Libya’s presidential and parliamentary elections, and ending the transitional period in order to allow the brotherly Libyan people to determine their fate and choose their leaders and representatives.
Al-Menfi praised Egypt’s vital role and its sincere efforts under Al-Sisi’s leadership to restore security and stability in Libya by supporting comprehensive national reconciliation efforts among Libyans.
He also praised Egypt’s efforts to reunify state institutions as well as support the implementation of various UN and international outputs to ensure the exit of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya in a way that preserves the country’s unity, security, and sovereignty.
Furthermore, Al-Menfi reviewed the current internal political scene in Libya and agreed to intensify consultations and coordination between the two sides in the coming period to follow up on the political process and the procedures for managing the transition.
