UN will continue to support political process in Libya to hold elections: Stephanie Williams

UN Adviser to Libya Stephanie Williams has issued a statement at the conclusion of the work of the Libyan Constitutional Path Committee in Cairo, confirming that the consultations took place in a consensual atmosphere, according to Al-Arabiya.

“We appreciate Cairo’s support for the Libyan negotiations process,” she said, noting that it was agreed to continue consultations after Eid Al-Fitr.

The Middle East News Agency indicated in its final statement that the consultations included agreeing on the internal regulations governing the work of the committee, adding “While the Constitutional Track Committee held closed-door meetings, the United Nations facilitated public discussions over the course of a period of time.”

In the past few days, the expert group provided technical clarifications on a number of important constitutional issues, citing constitutional experiences from a number of countries in the region and the world.

She indicated that the United Nations seeks to build on the consensus that was achieved between the two councils at the beginning of this year to reactivate the electoral process and meet the aspirations of the Libyan people, emphasizing the importance of holding elections based on a sound constitutional framework and an electoral framework with specific deadlines.

She added, “We will continue to support the political process in Libya to hold elections. The Libyans deserve a clear path out of this crisis, stressing that institutions must provide democratic frameworks for holding elections.”

Member of the Libyan House of Representatives Suleiman Al-Faqih, praised the role of the Egyptian government in supporting the security and stability of Libya, pointing out that Egypt always supports the interests of the Libyan people and the stability of the country, which will be in the interest of all.

In his speech at the conclusion of the Libyan constitutional track meetings in Cairo, Al-Faqih affirmed their keenness to end the Libyan transitional phase as soon as possible, in agreement on the sound constitutional framework, which will lead to a stable phase and a decent life worthy of the Libyan people and fulfil the desire of millions to hold elections.

  

The member of the Libyan Parliament pointed out that the Libyan people were deprived of stability and the constitution in light of what he described as the “hierarchy of the state” for a long time, stressing their keenness to meet the aspirations and aspirations of the Libyan people, adding, “the Constitutional Path Committee is keen on stability, access to elections that adopt its results and be the last building block in the stability of Libya.

In his speech, the Libyan Parliament made it clear that the Libyan Constitutional Path Committee will hold an emergency session after the blessed Eid Al-Fitr, expressing its wishes that results will be reached in which all the Libyan people desire.
