Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi witnessed the signing ceremony between the Egyptian government and the international company Siemens, to establish an integrated system for the country’s first electric train network.
The project includes a total of three lines with a length of about 2,000 km.
During the signing ceremony, President Al-Sisi stated that the new electric train network comes as a consolidation of fruitful cooperation between Egypt and Germany in the field of infrastructure.
He added that the project will represent a great addition to the transportation system in Egypt, marking the beginning of a new era for railways in the country, Africa and the Middle East.
Roland Busch, the President and CEO of Siemens, expressed his pride in the fruitful cooperation with Egypt in the development projects “that made an honorable history for the company in the region and the world.”
Busch pointed out that the high-speed electric train project in Egypt is the largest in the history of Siemens since its establishment of the firm 175 years ago.
Moreover, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz delivered a virtual speech during the ceremony, stressing the importance of the strong partnership relations between Egypt and Germany, praising the Egyptian strategic decision to rely on fast trains for the transportation of citizens and the movement of goods.
He added that this system is sought to enhance Egypt’s rank and commercial position regionally and globally and make it a leader in technology of high-end railways in the Middle East and Africa.
