Arab ministers of foreign affairs have reiterated their support for Lebanon, its leadership and its people, to overcome its economic and political problems.
Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said during a consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers, hosted by Beirut on Saturday, the Arab League expressed confidence in Lebanon’s stability and future.
It was the third consultative meeting in this regard.
Aboul Gheit explained that the ministers listened to a speech in which President Michel Aoun explained his position and presented the Lebanese situation, circumstances and the need for Arab support for Lebanon.
“The Arab League stands behind the Lebanese state, government and people, and we wish Lebanon all the best and success,” he said.
During the consultative meeting, the Arab ministers discussed the preparations for the Arab summit that will be held in Algeria in November, the catastrophic situation of famine in Somalia in light of the difficult climate conditions and the Arab food security, and the plan that the General Secretariat is preparing to submit in September. They also discussed the Palestinian issue.
President Michel Aoun met with a delegation of participants in the consultative meeting, stressing the importance of Arab-Arab relations, especially at this delicate moment that the Arab world is passing through and the challenges it faces that require the utmost degree of consultation and joint cooperation.
“Cooperation and solidarity between brotherly Arab countries is important in light of the crises, pressures and transformations our countries are witnessing,” he said.
He stressed: “Lebanon, which suffers from a series of accumulated crises, is also suffering from burdens that it shoulders due to the large numbers of refugees and displaced persons on its land, and it can no longer bear this reality. The position of the international community does not encourage the finding of quick solutions.”
Aoun expressed his hope for Arab and international assistance to face these challenges, stressing that “Lebanon, despite its current difficult circumstances, is determined to face the challenges and find solutions to get out of them ” he said.
