Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has met with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Engineering Assistant to the President for National and Strategic Projects, Sherif Ismail, to follow up on the development of Lake Manzala and its surroundings.
The president ordered the government to accelerate the development process of Lake Manzala, as well as other lakes nationwide, in addition to supporting fishermen and providing them with needed services.
He also ordered the government to support and maximize fisheries’ production in integration with the purification of lakes, in addition to the formation of urban and tourist communities, which contribute to raising the standard of living for citizens residing around them.
The meeting also included Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel-Aty, Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy, Minister of Interior Mahmoud Tawfiq, Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Housing Assem Al-Gazzar, Advisor to the President for Urban Planning Sayed Ahmed, and head of the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces Hisham Al-Suwaifi.
During the meeting, they discussed efforts to develop Lake Manzala through several main axes, including environmental aspects, fisheries, maritime transport, tourism, and the social and economic dimension, improving the water quality and the environmental situation there.
There were proposals for developing and exploiting investment opportunities in Lake Manzala, which aim to preserve it and achieve sustainable development, were presented, and the procedures included in those proposals related to maximizing the return from exploiting the lake, whether in terms of environmental, economic, urban, social, or tourism terms, and that through the implementation of many marine and development works.
