The House of Representatives approved on Saturday a cabinet reshuffle called for by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. The amendment included the appointment of Mahmoud Mostafa Kamal Esmat, instead of Hisham Tawfik, as Minister of Public Enterprises Sector.
Esmat was the chairperson of Cairo Glass Manufacturing Company, and previously served as the chairperson of the Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation, as well as the chairperson of the Cairo Airport Company.
He received his Ph.D. in engineering from Daehaus University in Canada.
Esmat is expected to work on several urgent issues, most notably the completion of the development of spinning and weaving companies, which started receiving new equipment last week.
He will also complete the development of the El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company to produce electric cars for the first time in Egypt, as negotiations with a Chinese company have reached advanced stages. In addition, he will develop the Misr Aluminum Company and partner with the Saudi Public Investment Fund to increase the company’s capital.
