Egypt’s Parliament appointed on Saturday Nevine Al-Kilani as Minister of Culture, succeeding Inas Abdel Dayem.
Al-Kilani is the second woman to hold the Ministry of Culture since its establishment at the end of the 1950s.
Previously, Al-Kilani was chairperson of the Cultural Development Fund in January 2017.
After graduating in 1989, Al-Kilani worked as an assistant to the former president of the Cultural Development Fund, Salah Choucair, in supervising the opening ceremony of the Opera House.
In addition to her academic career, she also handled public relations for the Opera House and other opera creative centers.
In 1995, she received a doctorate in art criticism from the Academy of Arts, and in 2014 she was appointed dean of the Higher Institute of Art Criticism at the Academy of Arts.
