Egypt’s Food Export Council announced on Saturday that Egypt is the largest exporter of frozen strawberries in the world, shipping approximately 213,000 tonnes at a value of $250m in 2021.
Tamim Al-Dawy — Deputy Executive Director of the Food Export Council — stated that there are large international companies that import Egypt’s strawberries, including Japan Food Solutions, which is Egypt’s biggest customer.
Al-Dawy said that this is an accomplishment given that the Japanese market is the most difficult in the world in terms of specifications, adding that Egypt is also the world’s largest exporter of frozen strawberries to Germany and other countries.
According to the data of the International Trade Center (ITC), Egypt’s strawberries are superior to those of the most important producers in the world, including Poland, Mexico, Chile, and Morocco.
In a previous report, the Food Export Council revealed that frozen strawberries topped the list of fruit exports to the US during 2021, rising to $10m in exports — an increase of 202%. In second place were vegetable and canned preparations at $9m and a growth rate of 69%. Finally, molasses came in last with an increase of $8m and a growth rate of 143%.
