Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, accompanied by Mohamed Hani Ghoneim, Governor of Beni Suef, visited Al-Wasta Central Hospital, to ensure the regularity of working hours in the health system, and to follow up rates of development.
The minister’s visit comes as part of a series of periodic tours that include all governorates, to inspect medical facilities, determine the quality of medical services provided to citizens, and provide all necessary means and capabilities to overcome any challenges or obstacles that may face the functioning of the health sector.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, indicated that the minister visited the CT and X-ray department, where he directed to raise the efficiency and develop radiology devices, and also inspected the dialysis department, which operates with a force of 44 machines, and conducts 64 dialysis sessions per day, in addition, to check the hospital pharmacy to ensure the availability of sufficient stock of medicines.
Abdel Ghaffar explained that the minister directed to raise the efficiency of hospital departments and units, according to the needs of each department separately, and to modernise and develop all medical and non-medical equipment, and also directed to adhere to the periodic maintenance schedules for medical devices, sewage networks, water, and electricity.
He added that the minister met with a number of patients and listened to their requests and needs.
Abdel Ghaffar added that the minister was keen to inspect the internal accommodation rooms, check on the health status of patients and ensure that they receive the best medical service, in addition to making sure that medical teams are available 24 hours a day, directed at distributing doctors and nursing inside the hospital, according to the needs of each department.
The minister concluded his tour inside the hospital by inspecting the construction works of the regional medical supply complex building in the Beni Suef branch, the “strategic warehouse”, whose implementation rate reached 95%, on an area of 1,200 square meters, and includes the warehouse with a built-up area of 300 square metres. It consists of 3 floors, stressing the importance of the store because it serves medical facilities in the provinces of the region.
The capacity of Al-Wasta Hospital is estimated at 162 beds, and during the period from January to June 2022, 119 citizens were visited by the reception and emergency department. The outpatient clinics were also visited by 28,620 citizens, while the nursery department received 488 cases, the Intensive Care Unit also provided health care services to 2,315 cases, the dialysis department received 144 cases, and 5,604 (diagnostic and interventional) x-rays were performed.
