The Technical Secretariat of the Supreme Standing Committee for Human Rights (SSCHR) issued on Tuesday a report titled ‘The National Human Rights Strategy… A Year of Implementation.’
The report reviewed the most prominent national efforts to implement the 2021-2026 National Human Rights Strategy during its first year with a focus on what has been achieved by the end of August 2022.
Khaled Al-Baqli — Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights and Head of the Technical Secretariat of the SSCHR — said that the efforts documented and presented in the report confirm the seriousness of the Egyptian state in implementing the national strategy for human rights based on its self-belief and its comprehensive approach to development.
He added that the government’s efforts to put the strategy into effect and integrate it into the state’s public policies confirm its centrality to government work, as Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired several meetings to assess the progress of its implementation and instructed various ministries and agencies to cooperate with the technical secretariat of the SSCHR and provide it with the relevant data to enable it to follow up and monitor implementation.
He also noted the keenness of the House of Representatives and the Senate to exercise their oversight privileges, follow up on the implementation of the strategy, hold hearings, and use their parliamentary tools to follow up its implementation with the ministries and concerned entities, as well as with the technical secretariat.
Furthermore, Al-Baqli said that the implementation of the strategy in all its aspects enjoys close follow-up and guidance from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairperson of the SSCHR Sameh Shoukry, who provided all the support for the work of the technical secretariat to produce the report reflecting the actual reality of implementation and to serve as an opportunity for self-evaluation through which challenges can be quickly addressed during the next phase of the strategy.
“The efforts monitored by the report reflect Egypt’s steady progress on the path of building and development to provide a decent life for its people,” Al-Baqli said.
“They aim to strengthen the national course of action aiming to build the Egyptian citizen and develop their capabilities, improving human development indicators, and promoting and protecting human rights.”
