Egypt produces 21 films in 2022, less than previous years

The year 2022 witnessed 21 film releases, ranging from comedy, action, and tragedy. It was, however, less than previous years. Some of these films were released on digital platforms after they had failed to generate any significant revenues in theaters, so they were removed from cinemas after a few weeks. Digital platforms were the last refuge and resort for such films. On the other hand, some films were basically produced for digital release, and they achieved great success and high viewership.

Tamasih Al-Nil (The Nile Crocodiles)

It was the first Egyptian film released in 2022. It is a comedy film directed by Sameh Abdelaziz, written by Louay Al-Sayed, and starring Hamdi Al-Marghani, Mustafa Khater, Bayoumi Fouad, Hanadi Muhanna, and Muhammad Tharwat.

 

Loabat Shaytan  (Demon Game)

It was released in all theaters in the Arab countries through Fox International Cinema, but it was removed only three weeks later due to lack of revenue. It was later released on digital platforms. The film stars Bassem Samra, Munther Rayahna, Mustafa Abu Saree, Mohamed Ezz, and Nancy Salah. It was written by Dr. Ahmed Abdel Fattah Othman and directed by Ibram Nashat.

It was released at the end of this year. It’s a thrilling movie, as the main event of the film takes place at 11 o’clock and 11 minutes, and at this exact time things happen that no one expected. The film was written by Yasser Abdel Basset and starring Ghada Adel, Iyad Nassar and Muhammad Al-Sharnoubi, Hind Abdel-Halim, Omar Al-Shennawy, and Engy Al-Moqaddam, and produced by Ayman Naguib, and directed by Karim Abu Zaid.

 

Hamel El-Lakab (The Title Bearer)

It was released in all theaters, but it was removed a few weeks later and made its way on digital platforms. The film stars Hisham Majed, Dina El-Sherbiny, Mohamed Salam, and Ahmed Fathi, with stars Mohamed Tharwat, Donia Maher, Laila Ezz Al-Arab, and Mohamed Kilani.

Men Agl Zeko (For Zeko)

It was released in cinemas, starring Karim Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, Menna Shalaby, Mohamed Mahmoud, Mahmoud Hafez, guests of honor Chico and Esaad Younes, and written by Mostafa Hamdy and directed by Peter Mimi.

 

Mohema Mesh Mohema (An Unimportant Mission)

It was released in theaters, starring Bayoumi Fouad, Hala Fakher, Ahmed Fathy, Yasser El Tobgy, Caroline Azmy, and it was also shown on one of the digital platforms.

 

Maaly Mama (Her Excellency Mom)

It discusses a social issue, which is the mother’s relationship with her children, especially when she has responsibilities at work. The film stars Bushra, Mahmoud Al-Leithi, Shaima Seif, Sami Maghawry, Alaa Morsi, Muhammad Ali Rizk, Hossam Dagher, Sherif Baher, Ismail Sharaf, Doaa Ragab, Nour Ehab, Sully, and the child Yassin.

 

El Ankapot (Spider)

The film stars Ahmed El-Sakka, Mona Zaki, Dhafer El-Abidin, Yousra El-Lawzy, Shaima Seif, Mohamed Mamdouh, Zaki Fateen Abdel-Wahhab, and Mohamed Lotfy. It was written by Mohamed Nair and directed by Ahmed Nader Jalal.

 

Wahed Tani (Another One)

The film stars Ahmed Helmy, Ruby, Sayed Ragab, Ahmed Malek, Amr Abdel Galil, Nisreen Amin, Nour Ehab, Mohamed El Taji, Amr Wahba, Mahmoud Hafez and is directed by Mohamed Shaker Khodeir.

 

Zombie

The film stars Ali Rabei, Dina Mohsen, Hajar Ahmed, Karim Afifi, Hamdi Al-Mirghani, Muhammad Utaka, Arefa Abdel-Rasoul, Muhammad Mahmoud, written by Amin Gamal and directed by Amr Salah.

 

El Gareema (Crime)

It achieved great success in cinemas. It was written and directed by Sherif Arafa and starred the stars: Ahmed Ezz, Majid Al-Kadwani, Menna Shalaby, and Riyad Al-Khouli.

 

Qamar 14 (Full Moon)

It was directed by Hadi El-Bagoury and written by Muhammad Zahran, starring Ahmed Al-Fishawy, Ghada Adel, Khaled Al-Nabawy, Bayoumi Fouad, Khaled Anwar, Muhammad Alaa, Muhammad Jumaa, Mai Al-Ghaiti, Asmaa Abu Al-Yazid, Sherine Reda, and Mohamed Mahran.

 

Kira Wal Jinn (Kira and Jinn)

The film achieved huge success in cinemas. It was written by Ahmed Murad and directed by Marwan Hamed, starring Karim Abdel Aziz, Ahmed Ezz, Hind Sabri, Sayed Ragab, Amina Khalil, Asmaa Abu Al-Yazid.

 

Amohom (The Best One of Them)

It was written by Wissam Sabry and directed by Hussein Al-Manyawi, starring Muhammad Imam, Ahmed Al-Fishawy, Mahmoud Hamida, Muhammad Salam, Sayed Ragab, and Hana El-Zahed.

 

Bahebk (I Love You)

It was written, directed, and starred Tamer Hosni. The cast included Hana El-Zahed, Hamdi Al Mirghani, Huda Al Mufti, and Medhat Tykha.

 

Films released on digital platforms

 

Taht Tahdeed El Selah (At Gunpoint)

It achieved great success. The film starred Hassan El-Raddad, Mai Omar, Sherine Reda, Amr Abdel-Galil, Bayoumi Fouad, Abbas Abu Al-Hassan, Hala Al-Saeed, Juri Bakr, and Ahmed Bedair. Written by Ayman Bahgat Qamar, and directed by Mohamed Abdel Rahman Hamaki.

 

Godran (Walls)

It was released on one of the digital platforms, starring Nicolas Moawad, Dora, Ahmed Badir, Firas Saeed, and Hind Abdel Halim. It was written by Ahmed El Dahan and Haitham El Dahan, produced by Yasser Salah, and directed by Mohamed Baraka.

 

Fadl W Neama

Fadl and Naema are an innocent couple that run a food truck business. Farouk, a drug dealer, dupes them into transporting his goods while convincing them they’re working for the police and fulfilling a patriotic duty! The film stars Maged El Kedwany, Mahmoud Hafez, Hend Sabry, and Bayoumi Fouad.

 

Khetet Mazinger (The Mazinger Plan)

Faten, a popular, spontaneous, and strong girl, gets into trouble and exciting situations. The film was written by Muhammad Ismail Amin and Walid Khairy, and directed by Rami Rizkallah. It starred Yasmine Rais, Hamdi Al-Marghani, Mahmoud Hafez, Bayoumi Fouad, Aws Aws, Sama Ibrahim, and Mustafa Sarahan.

 

Ashbah Europa (Renegades of Europe)

The film stars Haifa Wehbe, Mustafa Khater, Ahmed Al-Fishawy, Abbas Abu Al-Hassan, and Bassem Samra.

 

Fi Laylat Al Eid (At the Night of Feast)

The film discusses several social issues, including marriage of minors and FGM. The film stars Yousra, Ghada Adel, Reham Abdel Ghafour Abeer Sabry, Naglaa Badr, Hanadi Muhanna, Sayed Ragab, Samiha Ayoub, and Mahmoud Hafez. It was directed by Sameh Abdel Aziz.

It was screened in the official competition of the Cairo International Film Festival, and it won several awards.

In an abandoned villa in a once-refined neighborhood, an old guard has been living since the 1960s. Suddenly, this world is turned upside down by an overzealous young man forcing him to face his fears, his past. The film stars Sayed Ragab, Nahed El Sebai, and Ahmad Khaled Saleh.
