The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues its efforts to monitor the conditions of the Egyptians affected by the devastating earthquake that struck southern Turkey and northern Syria.

This comes within the framework of the ministry’s consular sector operations room to monitor developments in the conditions of Egyptian citizens in the affected areas.

The ministry noted that continued search and rescue efforts were revealed in finding the body of an Egyptian citizen in Iskenderun, in the Turkish state of Hatay.

The victim’s body was transferred to a hospital in the state, where the Egyptian embassy in Ankara continues to coordinate with the Turkish authorities to complete all procedures related to obtaining the death certificate of the Egyptian citizen and burying the body.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends its sincere condolences and sympathy to the victim’s family, and confirms the continuation of efforts to pursue search and rescue operations.

Mohamed Mokhtar, the spokesperson of Tahya Misr Fund, said that the fund worked on an extensive campaign to reduce the repercussions of the devastating earthquake in Syria.

He pointed out, during a televised phone call on Saturday, that he had received special requests from members of the Syrian community in Egypt who wished to contribute to supporting the affected people.

He pointed out that an organizational framework was established for these contributions, so a bank account was opened to receive them, and the hotline 15118 was activated, and since then, requests for participation have been received from Egyptians and non-Egyptians.

He explained that this participation takes place through in-kind donations or donations electronically via the Fund’s website.

He stressed that the contributions received on the account 037037 – Syria Relief, are entirely intended for those affected by the earthquake in Syria, which enhances confidence that the support will reach the target segment.

A devastating earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria on the sixth of February, with a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale.

The death toll as of Saturday indicates that nearly 46,000 people have been killed, nearly 40,000 of them in Turkey, in addition to widespread destruction and significant property losses.
