Senator Ramy Galal, a member of the Youth Coordination for Parties and Politicians (CPYP) and member of the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee, called on the Egyptian government not to make Egyptians abroad feel they are financially targeted.
Galal said that the government should not deal with Egyptians abroad as a source of cash, such as through discussing how to tax their savings and approaches to attracting their cash inflows and remittances.
“The most important attribute of an Egyptian citizen anywhere in the world is his or her personal ID card number that refers to Egyptian identity, not his or her bank account number” Galal added.
The speech came during a Senate debate over the government’s policy toward Egyptian ex-pats. It also discussed initiatives and measures that contribute to supporting Egyptian citizens’ savings in the country, as well as taking care of the interests of Egyptian citizens around the world.
