Minister of Local Development Hisham Amna has instructed governors to list the projects whose implementation has not been completed in every development and service sector in the Egyptian governorates, providing the reasons why they stopped. This step aims to ensure that the projects resume their operation and entry into service at its full capacity.
He explained that the projects will be presented in a report to the Prime Minister in order to find urgent solutions to tackle their issues.
This step is also an implementation of the directives of the political leadership and the Prime Minister within the framework of the state’s efforts to advance the implementation of development projects and services, and expedite their implementation.
The Minister of Local Development indicated that field committees from the Ministry went to the governorates to check the data received regarding the suspended projects. The work of these committees is expected to be completed in the coming days. He also added that these projects will be a top priority on the agenda, so that citizens can benefit from them as soon as possible. This also aims to maximize the value of the investments made and improve the services provided to citizens.
Amna said that the governors are free to choose the projects that are most requested by the citizens, in order to start them and achieve the desired benefit from them.
The Minister of Local Development stated that the inventory will include all projects funded by any party in Egypt, whether or not they belong to the various directorates in the governorates such as Social Solidarity, Health, Population, Youth, Sports, Veterinary Medicine, Housing, Roads and Communications Authority, Irrigation and other parties.
The governorates are instructed to determine the reasons for the suspended projects’ failure and prepare a detailed actual statement for all them, according to a form prepared by the Ministry of Local Development. The statement will include an explanation of the possibility of including these projects within the plan for the next fiscal year or the reasons for the lack of financing.
The Minister of Local Development stated that the ministry is making a great effort in coordination with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development to provide the necessary funds to end the problems of projects that have been suspended for financial reasons, while prioritising projects that achieved the highest implementation rate. He indicated that support for these projects comes in the framework of the government’s full endeavor to provide more investments and eliminate the challenges and obstacles that stand in the way of those projects, which help with providing better job opportunities for the residents of the governorates.
Amna added that eliminating the problems of those projects saves billions of pounds to maximize the efficiency of investment spending, and benefit from the investments that have been spent, explaining that the government puts resuming suspended projects among its top priorities, in cooperation with all state institutions and agencies, according to a specific timetable. Amna also said that these projects are categorized at the level of service and development sectors in the governorates.
