4 dead, 23 injured in Qalyub train accident: Health Ministry

Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population has announced the final report on the Qalyub train accident, which occurred on Tuesday evening and resulted in the death of 4 citizens and the injury of 23 others.

The ministry stated that 18 injured were transferred to Qalyub Specialist Hospital, and 3 injured to the central Qanater Al-Khairiya, while two cases were transferred to Nasser Institute Hospital in Cairo, noting that 11 injured were discharged after receiving medical service, and their health condition was stable, and the rest of the injured received the necessary medical care.

The Qalyub train accident occurred at 7:20 a.m. local time, while a passenger train carrying No. 557 was entering Qalyub station to meet another train, but the driver passed the “closed semaphore”, which led to the train entering the railway ending in the protection part of the end of the road. This resulted in the derailment of the tractor and the first cart of the train, according to the Ministry of Transport 

The Attorney General opened an investigation into the incident.
