Second Edition of Techne Summit Cairo Concludes at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization

The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization witnessed the closing of the second edition of Techne Summit in Cairo, the largest international event in the Mediterranean region specializing in several fields such as investment, technology, and entrepreneurship.

Over the course of two days, the 11th and 12th of March, Techne summit was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), the Digital Economy and Technology General Division (DETGD), The Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC), and Enterprise Development Agency, in the presence of a huge number of participants, start-ups, investors and leading companies.

A strong lineup of local and international professionals and experts gave several panel discussions and workshops to the attendees covering nine diverse tracks. The second day of Techne Summit saw a visit from the famous TV presenter, Lamis Elhadidy, who lauded the participating projects by promising young talents. She encouraged young entrepreneurs participating in the summit to present their ideas and projects through her show, Al Forsa, which will be aired in partnership with Techne Summit.

Winners of Techne Summit Cairo competitions were announced on the closing day as well. The first competition was entitled “Egyptian Entrepreneurship League” and the winner is The Flankers who won a prize of EGP 100,000, divided into legal support of EGP 50,000 and a monetary prize of EGP 50,000.

The second competition, the MENA InsurTech competition, included potential investments of up to $250.000 against equity at a fair market valuation and the winners are, Garrar, MazAid, Esaal, Estshara, Bringy Inc, and ESTBN. The third competition was the EITESAL Acceleration Program for startups with a monetary prize of 50,000 Euros and the winner is MARSES Robotic Solutions. Lastly, the EITESAL Incubation Program offered a monetary prize of 10,000 Euros alongside multiple other prizes and services and the winners are Polygon, AtmosIOT, INSALA Robotics, Plstka, and Electrify by Geektech.

On the sidelines of the Techne Summit Cairo closing, a number of MoUs were signed to further support entrepreneurs in Egypt including an MoU with AUC Venture Lab to be the FinTech track partner, an MoU with Creative Industry Summit to be the marketing and advertising track partner, and an MoU with We Make Future, one of the world’s largest technological events, whereas the agreement provides an opportunity for three startups, Farmotopia, Skoolix, and El Dokan, to attend the event in Italy.

This year’s edition hosted a number of local experts from different sectors some of whom were, Abdalla ElEbiary, Chief Investment Officer at The Sovereign Fund of Egypt; Bassel Rahmy, Executive Director of MSMEDA; Michael Wanees, Country Head at Bayer Pharma; Hussein Aboubakr, Founder & CEO of Mozare3; Ahmed Hammouda, Founder of Thndr; Alain El Hajj, Co-Founder and COO at Paymob; Waleed Sadek, Founder & CEO of Yalla Super App; Dina El Shenoufi, Chief Investment Officer at Flat6labs and several other experts across various industries.

It is worth mentioning that the second edition of Techne Summit Cairo hosted over 230 speakers, 180 investors from more than 30 countries, and over 150 exhibitors ranging from corporate giants like Zoho & SAP to innovative startups like Maxab and CGC. All together came to discuss nine different tracks covering CreativeTech, Disrupt Tech, eCommerce, EdTech, FinTech, HealthTech, Investment, Marketing & Advertising, and Startup Business Academy through 10 workshops held by renowned industry experts, and five roundtables.
