Afghan forces raided a hideout of Daesh or the rival Islamic State (IS) outfit in the capital of Afghanistan Friday night, discovering arms and ammunition, the country’s counter-intelligence agency said in a statement on Saturday.
Personnel of General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) stormed the hideout of Daesh operative Asad Laghmani alias Qais in Botkhak locality of Police District (PD) 12. Asad Laghmani was behind a terror attack on the mosque of the Interior Ministry last year, the statement added.
The statement added that the security forces also discovered and seized a huge quantity of arms and ammunition including three pieces of Kalashnikovs, hand grenades, explosives devices and materials used in manufacturing mines during the operation.
However, the statement didn’t say if anyone was killed during the operations.
In the meantime, a local television channel Tolonews reported that a Daesh-affiliated man Asad Laghmani was killed in PD 12 of Kabul city last night.
Asad Laghmani, according to security officials, was involved in the attack on the mosque of the Interior Ministry in September 2022, which left seven dead and 21 others injured.
This is the second operation launched by Afghan forces against IS hideouts in Kabul since Tuesday. Three IS militants were killed in the previous operations launched in the same locality on Tuesday night.
The Afghan caretaker government has vowed to crack down on armed opponents elsewhere in the country.
