Egyptian Health Minister, UNICEF discuss joint cooperation

Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met on Tuesday with the representative of UNICEF in Egypt, Jeremy Hopkins and his accompanying delegation, to discuss developments in joint work files.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, stated that the meeting dealt with discussing the joint action plan between the two sides for the years 2023 and 2024, as well as the UNICEF support plan for the work strategies of the Ministry of Health, on top of which are the files of nutrition, primary care, comprehensive health coverage, maternal, child and newborn health.

Abdel Ghaffar indicated that cooperation with UNICEF in providing technical support for integrating mental health services into primary care programs provided in health units and family medicine centres was discussed, as well as the President of the Republic’s initiative to enhance primary care services including 251 medical facilities within the first phase.

He added that the minister discussed with the UNICEF delegation support for the services of the “Golden Thousand Days” initiative of a child’s life, in addition to ways to enhance services provided to children and adolescents, their nutrition and development, in addition to discussing cooperation in supporting vaccination programs.

The minister stressed the importance of cooperation with international partners in supporting the implementation of the national strategy for food and nutrition that has been worked on recently, which is one of the priorities of the Egyptian state’s goals, to improve food systems and ensure food security for citizens.
