Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry phoned on Sunday UN special envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the call aimed at consultation and coordination with the UN envoy on the Syrian crisis and ways to push for a political solution.
Shoukry stressed Egypt’s full support for the UN envoy’s efforts to reach a comprehensive political settlement under Syrian ownership in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254, in light of the high priority Egypt attaches to restoring security and stability in Syria and ending all forms of terrorism and foreign interference in it.
The call also discussed ways to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people, stressing Egypt’s continued keenness to contribute strongly to efforts to alleviate the suffering.
The two sides agreed to continue consultation and coordination during the coming period, where the UN envoy expressed his full appreciation for the role of Egypt and its continued support to the United Nations in order to resolve the Syrian crisis.
