Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry phoned on Monday Djibouti’s Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssef and South Sudan’s acting Foreign Minister Deng Daw to discuss the developments of the current crisis in Sudan.
Ahmed Abu Zeid, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that these contacts are part of the framework of the two countries’ membership in the presidential delegation to be sent to Sudan by the IGAD organization for mediation, in addition to the announcement Sunday by the Egyptian and South Sudanese presidents of the readiness of the two countries to undertake mediation between the Sudanese parties.
Minister Shoukry stressed the importance of dealing with the ongoing conflict as an internal matter and refraining from interfering in it in a way that aggravates the conflict, which is agreed by the officials of Djibouti and South Sudan.
During the two calls, Shoukry stressed the need to integrate all efforts to preserve the stability and safety of the brotherly state of Sudan and its people, and the need to focus on reaching an immediate ceasefire between the conflicting parties, highlighting the efforts undertaken by the Arab League in this regard since the holding of the emergency meeting of the Arab League Council on Sunday.
