Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received on Sunday Ammar Al-Hakim, the leader of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement, in the presence of Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, General Intelligence Chief Abbas Kamel, and Iraqi ambassador in Cairo Ahmed Al-Dulaimi.
Ahmed Fahmi, the presidential spokesperson, said that Al-Sisi affirmed his pride in the strong brotherly relations between Egypt and Iraq on the official and popular levels, as well as Egypt’s keenness on the safety, security, and stability of Iraq.
Al-Sisi stressed Egypt’s support for Iraq’s efforts to achieve renaissance, development, and progress.
In this regard, President Al-Sisi praised the constructive role played by the head of the Iraqi Government Movement to maintain stability and balance in Iraq.
For his part, the head of the Iraqi Wisdom Movement expressed his deep appreciation for the model of wise leadership represented by President Al-Sisi at the local, regional and international levels, as well as Egypt’s role as a pivotal pillar and essential guarantor for the preservation of stability in the Islamic and Arab region as a whole.
He confirmed Iraq’s aspiration to continue strengthening the historical and close relations between the two brotherly countries, which are based on solidarity and brotherhood. He expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s efforts in supporting Iraq and its keenness to benefit from Egypt’s development expertise in all fields.
According to the Presidential Spokesperson, the meeting discussed the Iraqi political scene, in addition to discussing the most prominent regional developments of common interest.
Later on Sunday, Foreign Minister Shoukry met with Al-Hakim. Ahmed Abu Zeid, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Shoukry confirmed Egypt’s keenness to advance cooperation with Iraq and looked forward to holding the Egyptian-Iraqi Joint Higher Committee at the level of the two countries’ prime ministers in Cairo soon, with results that would push forward bilateral relations.
The Minister welcomed Al-Hakim’s expression of commitment to strengthening economic relations between Iraq and Egypt, especially with regard to the opportunities for Egyptian companies to participate in development and reconstruction projects in Iraq.
This will be translated into reality through the implementation of a number of projects on the ground in the coming period.
In this context, Minister Shoukry stressed the importance that Egypt attaches to the mechanism of tripartite cooperation between Egypt, Iraq and Jordan to link the interests of the three countries, looking forward to the implementation of the cooperation projects agreed upon as soon as possible to reflect the common political will.
The Foreign Minister also expressed Egypt’s full support for Iraq in its war against terrorism, based on its support for the safety, security and stability of the brotherly country of Iraq.
The meeting included discussions on a number of regional issues of common priority, with both sides stressing their keenness on continuous coordination between the two countries on ways to enhance stability in the region.
