Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairperson of the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority (SCZONE) travelled to the Indian capital, New Delhi, on Sunday to discuss cooperation with major Indian companies in new projects within SCZONE ports and industrial zones.

This comes within the framework of the President’s directives to attract more diversified foreign investments, and within the economic zone’s endeavor to localize the industries targeted in the region’s strategy 2020/2025.

This visit is the third promotional station for the SCZONE in Asia. These visits aim to attract companies operating in many sectors, most notably energy, infrastructure, petrochemicals and heavy industries, as well as green fuel companies. They also target discussing ways of cooperation with some ports to enhance joint work in the field of logistics.

Also, he said that these foreign visits come within the promotional plan that the region is targeting during the current year to present the investment opportunities for the region and introduce it abroad as one of the promising economic centers, which is the main window to the African markets for all investors, in addition to its geographical location on the banks of the Suez Canal, the most important global shipping corridor.

On the other hand, Gamal El-Din referred to the special coordination of this tour. He has been in constant communication, over the past days, with Wael Hamed, the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to India, to work on coordinating a large number of meetings with major Indian companies and attracting targeted industries to the ports and regions of the Authority, as well as meeting with some officials, especially after the establishment of some Indian projects within the Sokhna region this year.

He pointed out that this visit is different in terms of its promotional objectives. The delegation of the SCZONE includes Ibrahim Abdel Khaleq, Vice President of the Authority for Investment Affairs, Amani Essawi, Advisor to the Authority for International Relations, and Nader Kamel, Assistant General Manager of Investor Relations.

This visit also comes after a joint meeting between Gamal El-Din and Ajit Gupte, the ambassador of India to Cairo, as part of the preparations for the promotional tour, which includes many meetings of major Indian companies operating in various sectors between New Delhi and Mumbai.
