Foreign Ministers Sameh Shoukry of Egypt and Ivica Dacic of Serbia inaugurated an academic seminar in Belgrade on Tuesday to celebrate the 115th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between their two countries.
The seminar, which is organized by the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs and the International Institute for Policy and Economy of Serbia, will run from July 3 to 5.
In a video message, Shoukry said that the two countries have built a strong partnership over the past century based on common interests, mutual respect, and a shared vision for the international system.
He highlighted the joint work of Egypt and Serbia within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to promote respect for sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, peaceful coexistence, and non-interference. He also pointed to the two countries’ cooperation in achieving national liberation and economic and social development.
Shoukry said that the friendship between Egypt and Serbia was further cemented by the signing of a strategic partnership declaration by the presidents of the two countries during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Serbia in July 2022. The declaration, he said, represents an important turning point in bilateral relations and an opportunity to expand political, economic, and cultural cooperation.
Dacic, for his part, said that the seminar was a testament to the importance that both countries attach to their relationship. He highlighted the strong economic ties between Egypt and Serbia, as well as the two countries’ shared commitment to regional stability and security.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Orabi, chairman of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs, said that the seminar will address a wide range of topics related to Egyptian-Serbian relations, as well as regional and international political and security developments. He said that the seminar will feature presentations by a number of leading experts from both countries.
Ambassador Bassel Salah, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Belgrade, said that the seminar is part of a series of cultural and academic events that the embassy is organizing this year to celebrate the 115th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Serbia.
The seminar is expected to conclude with a joint statement by the two foreign ministers reaffirming their commitment to strengthening and developing the Egyptian-Serbian partnership.
