Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait directed the facilitation of customs procedures for pilgrims, giving special priority to the elderly and sick cases. In addition, automated custom systems and x-ray examination devices will also be part of the process.
In a statement by the ministry on Tuesday, Maait expressed his appreciation for the efforts of customs port workers who continue to achieve customs targets. They ensure the speed and accuracy of the procedures, in order to lay the foundations for a more advanced digital work environment and governance. Ports are connected through the unified electronic platform, the newly developed logistics centers, and the ACI application for shipments in a way that helps localize distinguished global expertise, reducing customs release time, reducing the cost of the import and export process, and real-time monitoring of Egyptian imports and exports.
Al-Shahat Ghattouri, Head of the Customs Authority, referred to the increase in the number of customs officers, in line with the efforts to intensify work in the arrival halls at the ports around the clock. This is in line with the return trips of pilgrims. He pointed out that customs port managers are constantly present at the airports and sea passenger stations for the speedy release of luggage.
Ghattouri stressed the Authority’s keenness to take all measures necessary for facilitating, stimulating and attracting local and foreign investments. This aims to maximize domestic production, enhancing the competitive strength of Egyptian products in global markets, facilitating trade movement, and improving Egypt’s classification in three important international indicators: global competitiveness, business practice, and the macroeconomic environment.
